The History of Louisville

Louisville was settled by Henry Lautzenheiser, a German, and Henry Fainot, a French Huguenot, in the year 1834. Lautzenheiser named the town after his son, Lewis, and the town was originally spelled “Lewisville.” But when the U.S. Post Office was established in 1837, the name Lewisville was already in use and the spelling was changed to Louisville. Two of the town’s original streets—Main Street and Chapel Street—are still well-traveled to this day.
